THE PROFESSOR OF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY, FIELD BIOINFORMATICS

The Institute of Biomedical Technology (IBT) is one of the nine schools of the University of Tampere. IBT conducts high standard research in the field of biomedicine and biotechnology and consists of nineteen research groups, the joint Biotechnology Program with the Tampere University of Technology and joint Master’s Degree program in Bioinformatics with the University of Turku. Research activities of the Institute cover bioinformatics, biotechnology, cancer, molecular biology, mitochondrial disease and ageing, immunology and cell and tissue technology.

The post of Professor of Medical Technology and Biotechnology will be filled initially for 5 years. The successful candidate is expected to strengthen the research environment, develop strong externally funded research program and to have the ability to provide high-quality teaching in the field of bioinformatics and biocomputing.

FIXED-TERM RESEARCHER/ POST DOC POSITION

BioMediTech is a joint institute of Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere. BioMediTech’s research is concentrated in the fields of bioscience and medical technology. Human Spare Parts Research Program is one of the key programs of BioMediTech (http://www.biomeditech.fi/research/human_spare_parts_program.php).

The Ophthalmology group in the Regenerative medicine in the University of Tampere (http://www.uta.fi/ibt/institute/research/skottman/) is seeking a Post Doc or skilled MSc to Human Spare Parts-program for the project to develop the human stem cell based in vitro blood retinal barrier model for drug development and testing.

The successful applicant will be responsible for setting up the pharmacological assays to validate the functionality of the blood retinal barrier model that is currently under the development.

The applicant should have in-depth knowledge in pharmacological methods and pharmacological kinetic measurements. The familiarity in cell biology and cell culture is an advantage.

This position for the Researcher/ Post-doctoral Fellow is fixed-term job at first for one year. Salary is dictated by experience (the job demands level 2-5) according to the Finnish Universities’ Salary System. Start date: as soon as possible.

PATENT EXPERT

The patent expert will be participating in screening of technology utilization possibilities and patenting processes of the BioMediTech research results. His/her tasks will also include novelty searches, freedom-to-operate -searches and scanning of competitors’ actions and patent statuses in the research fields of BioMediTech.
